Frequently Asked Questions
Coaching is new to me. What can I expect?
First, we’ll meet to see if we’re a good match for each other (Initial Alchemy Conversation). If we are a good fit, you’ll decide your preferred way to move forward.
Every coaching interaction is a little different, unique to you and what you most need in each moment. That being said, every experience will include digging into the circumstances bringing you to coaching (also known as a kairos moment). We’ll often begin by exploring your current situation and also examine your habits, environment, relationships, and beliefs to help identify what you truly desire in your work and/or life. You’ll practice with actions that will turn those desires into reality.
Through courage, you will shift. Then you will shift your world. You will intentionally turn kairos moments into magic.

What is a kairos moment?
Kairos is defined as the perfect, delicate, crucial moment; the fleeting rightness of time and place that creates the opportune atmosphere for action, words, or movement. We all encounter kairos regularly. If we learn to notice these moments and begin to meet them with intention and courage, we can create shifts.

Why courage?
Knowing that a moment is opportune for action is different than taking action in that moment. Often what holds us back is fear (or anxiety) and then the moment is gone. Courage doesn’t exist without fear. Having courage to say “I want to shift my situation” or “I don’t want to miss that next moment” is the first step toward creating that shift.

Magic, really?
As an adult, magic can be an uncomfortable word. Can we really say it with a straight face? And yet, we’ve all had moments, experiences, and people in our lives that simply felt different, unique, or even better in some way. One of my favorite definitions of the word magic is “desire made real.” Even stating simple desire such as: ‘I want (something) to be better‘ can begin to create big shifts. In the context of our coaching together, the word “magic” is an invitation to embrace just a little bit of whimsy and step into a world where desire can become reality.

What is integral coaching?
Integral coaching is a holistic professional coaching approach based on the theory that a pattern we experience in one aspect of our life will also show up, in some form, in other aspects of our lives. With that theory as a foundation, the integral approach works with patterns and underlying beliefs without limiting coaching to a specific situation.

What is agile coaching?
Agile coaching includes many disciplines: individual, team and systemic coaching, facilitating, teaching and mentoring. It is unique from other types of coaching in its open and deliberate bias towards using agile methods and approaches. At the heart of all of agile approaches are four core values (individuals and interactions, working software, collaboration, responding to change) intended to shape how we think about and engage in work, especially when working with others.
